Baltimore manhole covers

Baltimore’s manhole covers have a tendency towards bold patterns and large font sizes.

Philosophical question-- is a water meter a type of manhole cover or is it an entirely different category of infrastructure? Is diameter size the only distinction?

Is there a difference between a water meter and a water valve?

Large font + bold pattern = a nice looking manhole cover.

One of my favorite manhole covers, with an Art Deco-style typescript.
