Washington DC’s historic manhole covers

Manhole covers are  interesting pieces of urban infrastructure that often go unnoticed. My collection of manhole cover pictures starts with Washington DC.   The oldest Washington manhole covers (at least the ones that are still around) date from the late 19th century.
